Defending the Rights of the Soldiers That Defend Ours
In 2017, I faced a Senate bill that aimed to take away constitutional rights of our National Guardsmen and military personnel. It was disheartening to witness politicians comfortably seated in an air-conditioned chamber with pillars and marble walls making decisions to jeopardize the rights of our soldiers who sacrifice everything so they can sit in that chamber. Despite repeated pressure from National Guard leadership and lobbyists, I steadfastly opposed the bill, voting against it on both April 24th and June 1st, 2017. I firmly believe that if we don’t have the courage to defend the rights of the soldiers who defend ours, we have no place in public office. Our soldiers deserve our unwavering support, just as they unwaveringly support our nation.
